CCTV, Drones and Undercover Officers Deployed for India–Pakistan Match

Sri Lanka Police have rolled out an extensive security plan ahead of the much-anticipated India–Pakistan international cricket match set for 15 February 2026 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Police Spokesperson ASP F. U. Wootler announced that surveillance operations will include island-wide CCTV coverage around the venue, drone patrols, and the deployment of undercover officers to strengthen security throughout the event.

Gates will open at 3:00 p.m., four hours before the 7:00 p.m. start, with authorities advising fans to arrive early to minimize traffic congestion and ensure smooth entry procedures.

All access roads and surrounding areas will be closely monitored through camera systems, while plainclothes personnel and aerial surveillance units will remain active during the match. Security checks, including vehicle inspections and physical screenings, will be conducted at every entrance point. Officers in civilian attire will also be present to guide spectators and respond swiftly to any potential concerns.

Designated parking areas for ticket holders include Grandpass Matti Park, the Sathosa car park, Sebastian Ela, Kovila Road, Applewatte, and both sides of Adi Siyya Paara. Vehicles bearing passes issued by Sri Lanka Cricket may enter via Keththarama Junction and Wilson Perera Mawatha through Gates 1 and 2.

Temporary traffic limitations will be enforced on several roads near the stadium, including stretches of Wilson Perera Mawatha, Babapulle Junction and Bridge access, Sebastian Ela via Malwatte Road, the Adi Siyya Paara–Temple Road junction, Stadium Road near Maligawatte, and Saddharma Mawatha connecting to Temple Road (Keththarama Road).

Authorities have prohibited spectators from bringing backpacks, large bags, jackets, helmets, glass containers, electronic gadgets, musical instruments, knives, cutlery, or other sharp objects into the venue. While outside food is allowed, liquor is strictly banned. Additional food vendors will operate within the stadium premises.

Police have also made it clear that entry onto the playing field will not be permitted under any circumstances. Emphasizing the magnitude of the fixture, ASP Wootler described it as one of the largest international sporting events hosted in Sri Lanka and called on both local and overseas fans to cooperate fully with security measures to ensure a safe and successful match.
