West Indies Triumph Over England in T20 World Cup 2026

West Indies Spinners Stifle England in T20 World Cup 2026 Clash

The West Indies showcased their spin strength to secure a convincing victory over England in their second match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at Wankhede Stadium on February 11. Chasing a target of 197, England struggled against disciplined Caribbean bowling, finishing at 166 in 19 overs.

The West Indies’ spin trio — Gudakesh Motie (3/), Roston Chase (2/), and Akeal Hosein (1/) — consistently put pressure on the English batsmen, preventing them from building substantial partnerships. While Jacob Bethell (33), Phil Salt (30), and Jos Buttler (21) contributed runs, none managed to convert their starts into a big score. Sam Curran played a bright cameo, remaining unbeaten on 43 off 30 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes.

The West Indies’ innings began shakily, losing openers Shai Hope (0) and Brandon King (1) for just 8 runs. A brief recovery came from Roston Chase (34) and Shimron Hetmyer (23), who added 47 runs for the third wicket before falling in quick succession, leaving the score at 77 for 4.

The innings was rescued by Sherfane Rutherford, who played one of his finest T20I knocks, scoring an unbeaten 76 off 42 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 2 fours. Former captain Jason Holder provided further impetus, scoring 33 off 17 balls with 4 sixes as the West Indies finished 196/6, setting a challenging total.

For England, Adil Rashid and Jamie Overton took two wickets each, but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat. With this win, the West Indies now have 4 points from two matches, while England sit on 2 points from their opening pair of games in Group C.
