Britney Spears Sells Rights to Entire Music Catalogue
Pop icon Britney Spears has reportedly sold the rights to her complete music catalogue, in a deal valued at around $200 million (£146 million) with independent music publisher Primary Wave. The transaction, which took place on December 30, marks a significant move for the 44-year-old singer.
Spears, known for chart-topping hits like …Baby One More Time, Oops!… I Did It Again, Toxic, and Gimme More, has not publicly commented on the sale, and Primary Wave has yet to release a statement.
The deal adds Spears to a roster of legendary artists whose catalogues are managed by Primary Wave, including the estates of Notorious B.I.G., Prince, and Whitney Houston. Over the past few years, several high-profile stars have also sold their music rights—Bruce Springsteen sold his back catalogue to Sony for $500 million in 2021, while Justin Bieber reportedly signed a $200 million deal with Hipgnosis Songs Capital in 2023.
Spears, one of the best-selling female artists in music history with over 150 million records sold globally, has released nine studio albums since her 1999 debut. Her last release was a 2022 duet with Elton John, and in January 2024, she stated she would “never return to the music industry.”
This sale follows a turbulent period in Spears’ life. After ending her 13-year conservatorship in 2021—a legal arrangement that controlled her finances and personal affairs—she published her memoir The Woman in Me in 2023, detailing her experiences under the conservatorship. Her ex-husband Kevin Federline later released his memoir, You Thought You Knew, in late 2025.
