Sri Lanka Railways will operate a special train service from Thursday, February 5, through February 10, to assist devotees traveling to view the Sacred Relics at Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya. Pilgrims are visiting Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya to venerate the Sacred Relics that are currently on display. These relics are considered highly sacred in Buddhism, often believed to be associated with the Buddha himself. Devotees travel to the temple to pay their respects, make offerings, and participate in religious observances, seeking blessings, spiritual merit, and a sense of connection to their faith.
The service has been arranged to accommodate the increased number of pilgrims visiting the temple during this period. Officials from Sri Lanka Railways said the additional trains are aimed at providing convenient and safe transport for devotees, ensuring smooth travel while attending the religious observances and rituals associated with the Sacred Relics display.
Passengers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow the guidelines provided by railway authorities to ensure a comfortable and orderly travel experience.
