Saif al-Islam Gaddafi Reportedly Shot Dead

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of former Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, has reportedly been shot dead at the age of 53, according to Libyan media sources.

His death was confirmed on Tuesday by the head of his political team, as reported by the Libyan News Agency. Saif al-Islam was once widely viewed as his father’s political heir before the collapse of the Gaddafi regime in 2011.

According to his lawyer, a four-man commando unit allegedly carried out the assassination at his home in the city of Zintan. However, no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Adding to the uncertainty, his sister told Libyan television that he died near Libya’s border with Algeria, presenting a conflicting account of events.

The reports have reignited political tension and speculation in Libya, where Saif al-Islam remained a controversial and symbolic figure in the country’s post-revolution landscape.
