Pakistan’s Prime Minister Special Assistant on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, arrived in Sri Lanka on 27 January 2026 for official economic discussions. He was welcomed at Katunayake Airport by Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce, and Food Security R.M. Jayawardena.
Haroon Akhtar Khan’s visit coincides with the 13th session of the Pakistan–Sri Lanka Joint Economic Commission (JEC) and the 8th Secretary-level talks scheduled for 28 January, organized by Sri Lanka’s Department of Commerce.
On arrival, the delegation held a cordial meeting with Deputy Minister Jayawardena, who highlighted Sri Lanka’s efforts toward economic stability. Haroon Akhtar Khan noted that the visit aims to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, while Jayawardena emphasized expanding collaboration beyond trade to include social and cultural ties.
