Tavi Samaraweera Comes Home with Double Gold at U-11 World Table Tennis

Sri Lanka’s young table tennis sensation Tavi Samaraweera returned home today (26) after producing a remarkable international performance, winning two gold medals at Under-11 world-ranking events.

The 10-year-old arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport on SalamAir flight OV-437 from Muscat, Oman, according to an Ada Derana correspondent.

Samaraweera captured the top prize at the Under-11 World Ranking Table Tennis Tournament in Bahrain, which took place from January 14 to 18, 2026. He followed that success with another gold medal at the Under-11 World Junior Table Tennis Championship held in Doha, Qatar, from January 19 to 25, 2026.

A student of St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, Tavi is coached by his father, Hasitha Samaraweera, who has played a key role in guiding his rapid rise.

With his latest triumphs, Tavi Samaraweera continues to strengthen his position as the world’s No. 1 ranked Under-11 boys’ table tennis player, marking him as one of Sri Lanka’s brightest young sporting prospects.
