Several parts of Delhi witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Thursday morning as a marked shift in weather conditions brought thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across the capital, while higher reaches of Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said cloudy skies are likely to prevail in Delhi through the day.
An orange alert was issued by the IMD at around 4:50 am, warning of short but intense spells of rain accompanied by moderate thunderstorm activity in multiple areas of the city. Localities including Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Burari, Kanjhawala, Rohini, Badli, Model Town, Azadpur, Pitampura, Mundka, Paschim Vihar, Punjabi Bagh, Rajouri Garden, Jaffarpur, Najafgarh and Dwarka were listed as likely to be affected. The department also reported snowfall in parts of Kashmir, signalling a broader weather change across northern India.
