Usha Vance, wife of Vice-President JD Vance, has revealed that she is expecting her fourth child, announcing that the family is eagerly awaiting the arrival of a baby boy in late July.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the second lady shared that both she and the baby are doing well, sending warm wishes to followers.
The couple already has three children—Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. Usha Vance, 40, was born and raised in San Diego, California, to parents who had immigrated from Andhra Pradesh, India. Her father worked as a mechanical engineer, while her mother pursued a career in molecular biology.
Usha and JD Vance met in 2010 while studying at Yale Law School, joining a discussion group focused on social issues in America. Prior to her role as second lady, Usha Vance had an accomplished legal career, working as a corporate litigator in San Francisco and serving in clerkships for conservative judges, including Chief Justice John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh before his Supreme Court appointment.
She becomes the first second lady to have a child while in office, although previous first ladies have given birth during their husbands’ terms. The most notable example is Frances Cleveland, wife of President Grover Cleveland, who gave birth to her children while he was in the White House.
JD Vance has been vocal about encouraging higher birth rates in the United States. Speaking in 2025, he emphasized: “Let me say very simply: I want more babies in the United States of America.”
The announcement marks a joyful moment for the Vance family as they prepare to welcome their newest addition later this year.
