U.S. President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to India to participate in his “Board of Peace” initiative, designed to address and resolve global conflicts, according to a White House announcement on Sunday. The initiative will initially concentrate on the situation in Gaza, though India’s participation has not yet been confirmed. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi did not immediately comment on the development.
The invitation comes amid a period of tension in India-U.S. relations, particularly over the stalled trade negotiations. India faces tariffs of up to 50% on some exports to the U.S., among the highest globally, and no agreement has been reached to ease these levies.
Trump has reportedly invited around 60 nations to join the peace initiative, including India’s neighbor Pakistan. Earlier on Sunday, Pakistan’s government stated it would participate in international efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in Gaza.
