U.S. Ambassador Julie Chung met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for a farewell courtesy call ahead of her departure on 16 January, officially bringing her service in Sri Lanka to an end after four years as Washington’s chief representative in Colombo.
President Dissanayake thanked Ambassador Chung for her consistent dedication to advancing cooperation between the two nations and acknowledged her role in strengthening political, economic, and humanitarian engagement during her tenure. He also expressed gratitude for the United States’ timely support following Cyclone Ditwah and for her assistance in coordinating U.S. backing during Sri Lanka’s discussions with the International Monetary Fund.
Ambassador Chung, who took up her post in February 2022, leaves office after guiding several key initiatives in bilateral relations, including the celebration of 75 years of diplomatic partnership between Sri Lanka and the United States.
