A 37-year-old woman was fatally shot by a U.S. immigration officer in Minneapolis, igniting a heated dispute over the circumstances of the incident. Local authorities have challenged the Trump administration’s assertion that the shooting was an act of self-defense.
The Department of Homeland Security described the woman, Renee Nicole Good, as a “violent rioter” who allegedly attempted to run over ICE officers.
However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey strongly rejected that characterization, accusing the agent of “recklessly wielding authority in a way that led to a loss of life.” In a pointed message to ICE officials, Frey demanded that the federal officers leave the city.
The shooting occurred amid a broader federal crackdown on illegal immigration, with hundreds of ICE agents currently stationed in Minneapolis as part of a nationwide deployment ordered by the White House.
