Snow, Ice Disrupt Liverpool Flights

Flights at Liverpool John Lennon Airport have been suspended after severe wintry weather forced the temporary closure of the runway. Snowfall combined with icy conditions made it unsafe for aircraft operations, prompting airport authorities to halt all departures and arrivals.

Airport officials confirmed that the runway was closed as a precautionary measure due to the ongoing weather conditions. Teams were deployed early in the morning to clear accumulated snow and ice, with efforts focused on restoring safe operating conditions as quickly as possible. The airport stated that safety remains the top priority while weather conditions continue to be closely monitored.

As a result of the closure, no flights had departed from the airport during the morning hours. Several services were affected, including EasyJet flights scheduled to travel to Amsterdam and Belfast, which were cancelled altogether. Passengers booked on these routes were advised to check with their airline for rebooking options or further updates.

In addition to cancellations, multiple international flights experienced delays. Services bound for destinations such as Poland, Lithuania, and Dublin were held back, causing disruption for travellers and airport operations. Passengers were urged to allow extra time, stay in contact with their airlines, and monitor official airport announcements for the latest information.

Airport authorities have indicated that flight operations will resume once the runway is fully cleared and conditions are deemed safe, though continued cold weather could lead to further delays.
