India is gearing up for an action-packed sporting year in 2026, with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the BWF World Championships leading a calendar filled with elite international tournaments across multiple disciplines.
India will emerge as one of the world’s busiest sporting hubs in 2026, hosting a wide range of major international events spanning cricket, badminton, hockey, athletics, shooting, tennis, golf and squash. The headline attractions will be the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled across multiple Indian cities, and the BWF World Championships in New Delhi.
The year begins strongly in January with the Women’s Premier League, the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament in New Delhi, the Mumbai Marathon and the Hockey India League staged across Chennai, Ranchi and Bhubaneswar. Tennis action starts early with the Bengaluru Open, setting the tone for a packed calendar.
February is set to be the most intense month of the year. Alongside the Men’s T20 World Cup, India will host the Davis Cup Qualifiers in Bengaluru, the WTT Star Contender in Chennai and the Asian Championship Rifle and Pistol Shooting in New Delhi. Hockey fans will also enjoy FIH Pro League matches on home soil, while the inaugural Shooting League of India adds further excitement.
March brings the return of the Indian Premier League, which runs until May, alongside marquee events such as the JSW Indian Open Squash tournament and the Men’s Indian Open Golf Championship in New Delhi. April continues the momentum with the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad, marking India’s return as host after more than four decades.
After the summer break, the spotlight shifts back to New Delhi in August for the BWF World Championships, one of badminton’s most prestigious events. Bhubaneswar will also host India’s first-ever World Athletics Continental Tour Silver-level meet, reflecting the country’s growing stature in global athletics.
The final quarter of the year features the National Open Athletics Championships in October, the Women’s Indian Open golf tournament in Gurugram, and multiple international badminton tournaments across Raipur, Lucknow, Guwahati and Cuttack. The year concludes with several Super 100 badminton events and the Khelo India Youth and Para Games.
With world-class venues, a packed international schedule and growing fan engagement, 2026 is set to be a landmark year for Indian sport.
