Sri Lanka has achieved a historic milestone in its tourism sector, recording the highest number of annual tourist arrivals in the country’s history. The landmark 2,333,797th tourist for 2025 arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport, officially surpassing the long-standing record set in 2018.
The previous record of 2,333,796 visitors, established seven years ago, had remained unmatched until now. This achievement reflects the steady recovery and growing global confidence in Sri Lanka as a preferred travel destination.
Industry stakeholders credit the record-breaking figures to improved connectivity, diverse tourism offerings, enhanced safety measures, and renewed international interest in the island’s culture, nature, and hospitality. The milestone also signals a strong boost for the national economy, particularly sectors linked to travel, accommodation, and services.
Tourism authorities view this accomplishment as a significant step forward and a positive indicator for sustained growth in the coming years.
