India has officially welcomed the United Kingdom’s recent decision to impose sanctions on individuals and entities linked to the Babbar Khalsa extremist network. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the move strengthens global efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, illicit financial flows, and transnational organised crime.
The UK government announced an asset freeze on Gurpreet Singh Rehal—suspected of being part of the Babbar Khalsa terror group—as well as on an organisation accused of supporting the banned outfit. British authorities noted that this marks the first use of the Domestic Counter-Terrorism Regime to disrupt funding associated with the pro-Khalistan militant organisation.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India appreciates the action taken by the UK and is committed to further building strong security and counterterrorism cooperation between the two nations.
Gurpreet Singh Rehal is alleged to have been actively involved in assisting Babbar Khalsa by facilitating access to weapons, military equipment, and other support essential to the group’s extremist activities.
