A 54-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil man has been arrested in India for overstaying without a valid visa and for obtaining several Indian identity documents illegally.
The suspect, identified as Mallikas Reji Rajendran, had been working as a watchman and living in Injambakkam Kuppam. He was married to a woman from Ramanathapuram, who passed away in 2023, and the couple has three daughters.
During investigations, police discovered that Rajendran had acquired multiple Indian identity documents—including a passport, Aadhaar card, PAN card, and voter ID—despite being a Sri Lankan national with no legal permission to stay in the country.
Authorities have filed charges under Sections 318(4) and 336(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 12 and 22 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
