The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has issued an arrest warrant on Parliamentarian Jagath Manuwarna after he failed to appear in court today (October 30) regarding two pending cases filed in 2008.
Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara made the order after noting that the MP had been aware of the scheduled hearing but had deliberately absented himself without valid grounds.
Counsel appearing for MP Manuwarna informed the court that his client could not attend the proceedings as he was participating in a national ceremony to distribute land deeds.
However, the Magistrate pointed out that the parliamentarian had previously failed to appear in court citing health reasons and stated that the latest absence appeared intentional.
Finding no reasonable justification for the MP’s repeated failure to attend proceedings, the court issued a warrant for his arrest.
