Chhath Festival 2025: What Was Open and Closed in Delhi Yesterday

The national capital observed a public holiday on Monday, October 27, 2025, to celebrate the Chhath Festival, one of the most sacred Hindu festivals dedicated to the Sun God, Surya, and his wife, Usha.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended warm greetings to the people of Delhi, announcing that extensive arrangements had been made for devotees, including grand celebrations along the banks of the Yamuna River.

Widely celebrated across Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal, Chhath Puja spans four days of prayers, fasting, and offerings to the setting and rising sun, symbolising gratitude, purity, and devotion.

What Was Open and Closed

As per the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), government offices in Delhi remained closed on Monday. Most schools and private colleges also declared a holiday, while private offices operated as usual.
Commuters were advised to check traffic updates due to festive gatherings across the city.

Meanwhile, hospitals, emergency services, and public transport — including the Delhi Metro, buses, and auto-rickshaws — functioned normally to ensure convenience for residents.

Celebrations on the Yamuna River Banks

In her video message shared on X, CM Gupta expressed happiness over devotees being able to worship at the Yamuna after several years.

“After many years, our brothers and sisters were able to worship the Sun on the banks of the Yamuna Ji and offer Arghya. We made extensive preparations. Heartiest best wishes to all of you. May Chhathi Maiya’s blessings remain upon us all,” she said.

Every ghat was equipped with lighting, safety arrangements, drainage systems, and medical teams, ensuring a safe and joyful celebration for all devotees.
