In a meaningful move that reconnects with the country’s origins, the UAE has officially reinstated the name Eid Al Etihad — meaning “Celebration of the Union” — as the true title of its National Day.
According to officials, this isn’t a new name but a return to authenticity, echoing the title originally used by the nation’s founders to describe the historic unification of the seven emirates.
“The celebration is officially called Eid Al Etihad (Arabic: عيد الاتحاد),” explained Alsubousi. “This term was revived to reaffirm the nation’s true identity, placing the union at the heart of the celebration. It reflects the UAE’s spirit of unity and belonging.”
The updated title also brings linguistic and cultural unity across institutions, partners, and the public — aligning language, identity, and national pride under one flag.
A Message Beyond a Name
Eid Al Etihad is more than a rebranding — it’s a message of togetherness. “It reminds us that unity isn’t just history; it’s the driving force behind our progress,” Alsubousi said. “It celebrates every individual and community contributing to the nation’s success.”
Overseeing this year’s celebrations is the 54th Eid Al Etihad Team, led by Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Chairman and Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Vice Chair. The team aims to reinforce the inclusive, national spirit through creative collaborations and cultural programs across all emirates.
Where Tradition Meets Modernity
While the event continues to highlight Emirati values of joy, hospitality, and belonging, the celebrations now embrace modern forms of participation — from digital campaigns to community-driven projects.
“The essence of Eid Al Etihad endures,” Alsubousi noted. “What has changed is how we express it — broader participation, bolder creativity, and new ways for every generation to join in. It shows how progress and heritage thrive side by side.”
Inclusivity plays a central role, with initiatives like the Merchandise Open Call, which invited artists, designers, and creative businesses to design products under the Eid Al Etihad brand — spreading unity beyond official ceremonies.
A Unified National Brand
Visually, the rebranding is expressed through a unified design system available on the official website www.EidAlEtihad.ae. The theme for this year, United, connects all seven emirates through cohesive colours, logos, and digital assets while allowing local expressions of identity.
Looking ahead, the spirit of Eid Al Etihad not only honours the UAE’s past but also embodies its vision for the future — one rooted in innovation, sustainability, and shared pride.
“Eid Al Etihad inspires younger generations,” Alsubousi said. “It connects them with the legacy of the Founding Fathers, reminding them that they are the carriers of our cultural values — unity, generosity, and service — ensuring the spirit of the Union lives on.”
