At GITEX Global 2025, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Dubai Police General Command unveiled one of its latest technological innovations — the “Biometric Tunnel,” developed under the DuBiometrics project.
The “Biometric Tunnel” uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to analyze a person’s physical movements as they walk through the tunnel. Within five seconds, the system records a certified “kinematic signature” — a unique biometric pattern based on gait and joint movement — that can be used for forensic identification.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Hamad Mansour Al Awar, the Project Director, stated that the Biometric Tunnel remains in the research and development phase. He noted that it provides invaluable support to forensic experts by measuring an individual’s physical movements and dimensions to confirm identity, particularly in complex investigations.
According to Dr. Al Awar, the system can even detect intricate motion details such as joint flexibility, the effects of flat feet, and other distinctive movement traits. The operating system integrates these motion-based identifiers with additional biometric data, including facial recognition, ear prints, and various body measurements.
This combination of biometric technologies offers compelling physical evidence in criminal investigations where traditional identification methods may fall short.
Dr. Al Awar emphasized, “Kinetic signature relies on gait patterns and the measurement of fine details, joint movement, and physical measurements in order to identify unique characteristics. This helps forensic experts identify individuals, provide physical evidence to support police investigations, and achieve justice.”
The announcement comes as Dubai Police continue to lead global policing standards. According to a new Brand Finance study, Dubai Police have been ranked as the world’s strongest and most reputable police brand, earning a AAA+ rating and an impressive score of 9.2 out of 10. The ranking was based on a comparative study conducted across 10 countries, gathering insights from over 8,000 stakeholders and related entities.
