Canada’s Gabriel Diallo has advanced to the third round of the Shanghai Masters after a straight-sets victory over France’s Benjamin Bonzi on Thursday.
The Montreal native secured a 6-4, 6-4 win, showcasing a strong service game with four aces against two double faults. Diallo also capitalized on his chances, converting two of four break points.
Bonzi, meanwhile, delivered seven aces but struggled to break through, failing to earn a single break-point opportunity throughout the match.
Seeded 31st, Diallo received a bye into the second round before posting the impressive win.
Elsewhere in the tournament, fellow Canadians are also set for action. Felix Auger-Aliassime, seeded 12th, will face Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo on Friday, while Denis Shapovalov, seeded 23rd, is preparing for a clash with Australia’s Christopher O’Connell as he eyes a spot in the third round.
