Pathum Climbs to Career-Best Fifth in Latest Rankings

Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka has achieved a career-best fifth position in the latest ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, following his consistent form at the Asia Cup, where he amassed 261 runs. His rise sees him jump two spots into the top five, marking a significant milestone in his T20I career.

Fellow Sri Lankan batter Kusal Perera also made notable progress, climbing two places to ninth, further cementing Sri Lanka’s strong batting presence in the latest rankings.

Meanwhile, India’s Abhishek Sharma continues to dominate headlines as he extended his lead at the top of the T20I batting charts. The 25-year-old smashed a new record by becoming the highest-rated T20I batter in history with a rating of 931 points, surpassing the previous mark of 919 set by England’s Dawid Malan in 2020.

Sharma’s half-century in the semi-final against Sri Lanka capped off a stellar Asia Cup campaign, where he scored 314 runs at an average of 44.85, earning him the Player of the Tournament award. He now leads England’s Phil Salt, who sits in second place, by a whopping 82 rating points, while fellow Indian Tilak Varma retains third place after compiling 213 runs.

Further down the order, Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan climbed 11 spots to 13th, while India’s Sanju Samson surged eight places to 31st, both rewarded for their contributions at the Asia Cup.

In the bowling department, India’s Varun Chakravarthy holds firm as the No.1 ranked T20I bowler, after finishing the tournament with seven wickets. He is joined by several big movers: India’s Kuldeep Yadav (up nine spots to 12th), Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi (up 12 places to joint 13th), and Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain (up six to 20th) all climbed after strong performances.

There was also a shake-up in the all-rounder rankings, as Pakistan’s Saim Ayub dethroned India’s Hardik Pandya to become the No.1 ranked T20I all-rounder for the first time in his career. Ayub impressed particularly with the ball, claiming eight wickets, which helped him leap four spots into the top position. Pandya drops to second, now trailing Ayub by eight rating points.

Elsewhere in the all-rounder list, Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz moved up four spots to 13th, while Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka climbed three positions to equal 30th.
