Most Expensive Tea: New Guinness Record for Ceylon Tea

Sri Lanka has entered the Guinness World Records after the New Vithanakande Tea Factory achieved recognition for producing the world’s most expensive tea.

The factory secured the record with its premium Ceylon Black Tea (FFExSp), which was sold in Japan for Rs. 252,500 per kilogram (approximately ¥125,000).

Industry officials said the achievement highlights the global demand for high-quality Ceylon tea and strengthens Sri Lanka’s position in the luxury tea market.

New Vithanakande has a history of commanding top auction prices for its teas, particularly its OP1 grade, but this latest feat is considered a milestone in branding Ceylon tea at the highest international level.

Sri Lanka has previously set tea-related world records, including the largest cup of tea in 2010. However, this marks the first time the country has been recognized for the world’s most expensive tea.
