Eshan Malinga is yet to make his T20 debut for Sri Lanka — and was not included in the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Even in his own country’s franchise league, the LPL, he has featured in just a single match.

Yet, overseas, Malinga’s value continues to rise. He represented Paarl Royals in the SA20 (2024/25), turned out for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025, and has now been picked again by Paarl Royals for the 2025/26 season.

A young cricketer trusted by the world’s top leagues but still overlooked at home — the question remains: how much longer will Sri Lanka wait to give him his chance?
