The County of Simcoe proudly welcomed 36 new Canadians during an official citizenship ceremony on Monday, marking the beginning of the region’s third annual Week of Welcome.
The event, held in partnership with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), saw individuals from 14 different countries officially take the oath of citizenship. Many of these new Canadians have already been active contributors to communities across Simcoe County while working toward this milestone.
“It was an honour to be asked to host this ceremony in collaboration with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada,” said Warden Basil Clarke. “The County of Simcoe is proud to welcome these new citizens and be among the first to say congratulations on this incredible milestone.”
The ceremony, attended by local leaders including Kevin Weaver, President & CEO of Georgian College and Co-Chair of the Simcoe County Local Immigration Partnership, as well as Deputy Mayor of New Tecumseth Stephanie MacLellan, highlighted the county’s ongoing commitment to celebrating cultural diversity.
This marks the third official citizenship ceremony hosted by the county, following the first in June 2023 at County Council Chambers.
The celebration is part of the broader 2025 Week of Welcome running from September 15 to 19, an initiative designed to showcase the rich cultural diversity of Simcoe County while extending a warm invitation to newcomers as they begin their journey in the community.
