Brazil showed resilience in their 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship debut, recovering from a slow start to defeat China 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21) on Sunday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The three-time world champions dropped the opening set but quickly regrouped, with setter Fernando “Cachopa” Kreling spreading the offense among five hitters who reached double digits.
Artur Bento led Brazil with 17 points (15 kills, 1 block, 1 ace).
Judson Nunes added 14 (10 kills, 4 blocks).
Alan de Souza chipped in 13, while Ricardo Lucarelli and Flávio Gualberto scored 10 each.
“It was a tough start, but once our serving improved, we played the way we wanted,” Lucarelli said after the win.
China’s Peng Shikun scored 12 points, followed by Liu Libin with 10, but their efforts weren’t enough as Brazil outscored them 62–44 in kills.
Despite committing more errors (34 to China’s 22), Brazil’s offensive depth sealed their victory and secured their first three points in Pool H.
Earlier in the day, Czechia stunned Serbia 3-0, joining Brazil at the top of the pool. The two sides will clash on Tuesday at 10:00 local time (02:00 GMT).
