The historic city of Kandy has added a new attraction to its vibrant cultural scene with the launch of the “Kandy Breeze Night Fest” night market. The event officially commenced yesterday (13), announced Central Province Governor Prof. S.B.S. Abhayakoon.
The night market, designed to draw both local and foreign visitors, will be held every Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, stretching across Dalada Veediya and Kotugodella Veediya.
Organizers highlighted that the initiative aims to create a lively evening atmosphere in the city, showcasing a mix of traditional culture, entertainment, and shopping experiences. Visitors will be able to explore local crafts, food stalls, music, and cultural displays, making it a one-stop destination for both leisure and tourism.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Abhayakoon noted that the Kandy Breeze Night Fest is expected to strengthen Kandy’s position as a premier tourist hub, while also supporting small businesses and vendors.
“Kandy is already known worldwide for its heritage and cultural richness. This night market will add new vibrancy to the city and give tourists another reason to stay and explore,” he said.
The event is part of a broader effort to boost tourism in the Central Province, encouraging more overnight stays and enhancing the visitor experience. Local stakeholders believe the weekly market will not only drive economic activity but also highlight Kandy’s unique identity as a city where tradition meets modern vibrancy.
