Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was sworn in on Friday (September 12, 2025) as the 15th Vice-President of India and the new Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The oath of office was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice-Presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar and Hamid Ansari, Union cabinet ministers, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
This event also marked the first public appearance of Jagdeep Dhankhar since stepping down from the Vice-Presidency on July 21, 2025, citing health reasons.
With his swearing-in, Radhakrishnan officially assumes the responsibility of presiding over the upper house of Parliament, taking charge at a crucial time in India’s political landscape.
