The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) is set to honour one of the country’s most iconic musical voices, with its 09th studio officially being named the Dr. Nanda Malini Studio.
Announcing the tribute, SLBC Chairman Uditha Gayashan Gunasekara said the naming ceremony will take place on 22 August at 8:30 am, graced by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa.
The event will also bring together leading figures from Sri Lanka’s music and literary fields, including Professor Sunil Ariyaratne and veteran lyricist Kularatne Ariyawansa, who will join in paying tribute to the legendary vocalist.
A highlight of the ceremony will be the unveiling of Dr. Malini’s portrait, officially inaugurating the studio named in her honour. In addition, a special tribute gift will be presented to her as a token of appreciation for her decades-long contribution to Sri Lanka’s cultural and artistic heritage.
Dr. Nanda Malini, celebrated for her distinctive voice and profound musical legacy, remains a household name in Sri Lanka, with her songs continuing to inspire generations. The dedication of an SLBC studio in her name underscores the institution’s recognition of her enduring influence on the nation’s cultural identity.
