Toronto – A popular chocolate bar from Dubai, which went viral on social media for its unique flavor and texture, is being recalled in Canada over potential salmonella contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The recall affects Dubai brand pistachio and knafeh milk chocolate, which features a rich pistachio cream filling and crunchy knafeh pieces. The chocolate gained widespread popularity in recent years thanks to glowing online reviews and food blog features.
The CFIA issued the recall notice on August 5, 2025, stating that the chocolate had been distributed in Quebec and also sold online. The product was flagged during a routine food safety investigation, though no illnesses have been reported so far.
The federal agency has confirmed that it is working to ensure the recalled products are removed from the market and has advised consumers not to consume the chocolate.
“Salmonella is a serious food-borne bacteria that can cause severe and potentially deadly infections, especially in children, pregnant women, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems,” the agency warned.
While healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms like fever, nausea, vomiting, cramps, and diarrhea, salmonella infections can linger or spread to others even after symptoms subside.
The recalling firm is Distribution Bonbons JJ Candy, according to the CFIA.
