UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made a powerful statement on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, expressing grave concern over the ongoing suffering of Palestinians and the plight of hostages still held by Hamas. Speaking on July 29, 2025, he confirmed that the UK has begun a major humanitarian effort, including air-dropping aid into Gaza and calling for at least 500 trucks of supplies to enter daily.
Starmer emphasized that the only path to ending this crisis lies in a sustainable ceasefire and a long-term peace plan, supported by the US, Egypt, and Qatar. As part of this effort, the UK is prepared to formally recognize the state of Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly in September — unless the Israeli government makes substantial progress toward ending hostilities, allowing aid access, halting annexations in the West Bank, and reviving the Two State Solution.
The UK has also maintained a firm stance on Hamas, demanding the immediate release of hostages and the group’s full disarmament. Starmer concluded by reiterating the UK’s commitment to working with global partners to ensure peace, security, and dignity for both Palestinians and Israelis.
