Nepal secured an emphatic 7-0 win over Sri Lanka for the second time in the ongoing Under-20 Women’s SAFF Championship, replicating their previous scoreline in a dominant display in Bangladesh yesterday.
Purnima Rai opened the scoring for Nepal in the 16th minute, setting the tone for the match. Kushum Kahatiwada doubled the lead in the 35th minute, followed by Saritha Kumar Natha, who netted the third goal in the 42nd minute. Just before halftime, Kahatiwada struck again in the 44th minute, putting Nepal in complete control with a 4-0 lead.
The onslaught continued in the second half, with Birsana Chaudhry converting a penalty in the 67th minute to make it 5-0. Samiksha Magari then wrapped up the scoring with two quick goals in the 74th and 78th minutes, sealing Nepal’s second consecutive 7-0 win over Sri Lanka in the tournament.
Sri Lanka’s struggles in the championship continued, having played four matches and conceding a total of 28 goals while scoring only once. The team’s defensive frailties and lack of offensive output have made it a challenging campaign.
