The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) has announced that Olympic Day 2025 will be celebrated on 25 June at the iconic Galle Fort, bringing together people from all walks of life under the global theme, “Let’s Move.”
Traditionally observed worldwide on 23 June, Olympic Day commemorates the founding of the modern Olympic Movement in 1894. It serves as a call for people of all ages to engage in physical activity and embrace the core Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect. This year’s Sri Lankan celebration promises a blend of sports, culture, and community spirit.
The day’s festivities will begin with the Olympic Day Walk, starting at 10:00 a.m. from the Football Ground in Galle and proceeding toward Hall de Galle, where the main event will be held. The walk will be led by senior representatives from the Ministry of Sports and NOCSL.
A diverse group of participants is expected, including Olympians, members of the National Selection and Executive Committees, university students, schoolchildren, national athletes, and delegates from various sports federations and organizations.
The program will feature a ceremonial Olympic torch placement, traditional performances, a welcome dance, and keynote addresses. The presence of renowned sports personalities and figures from across disciplines is expected to add prestige and color to the occasion.
