During his royal visit in late May, King Charles III officially approved the new Great Seal of Canada, a national emblem used to legitimize the country’s most important documents.
This marks the sixth version of the seal since Queen Victoria authorized the first one in 1867. Each seal is designed for the reigning monarch. While the central disc stays the same, the surrounding ring changes to reflect the new sovereign.
Governor General Mary Simon praised the design as a “powerful symbol of sovereignty and identity,” blending Canada’s deep-rooted traditions with its inclusive and evolving identity.
