Gandhi’s Legacy Stands Strong Against Terrorism: Ravi Shankar Prasad in the U.K.

In a powerful gesture of respect, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad and an all-party delegation paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar in London on June 1, 2025. Speaking at Tavistock Square, Prasad emphasized that Gandhi’s principle of non-violence holds even greater relevance today, amidst terrorism sponsored by Pakistan.

Reflecting on the recent Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives, Prasad led India’s diplomatic outreach mission — Operation Sindoor Global Outreach — aimed at strengthening global ties and counterterrorism efforts.

The delegation, including MPs from multiple parties, met with Indian High Commissioner to the U.K. Vikram Doraiswami and engaged with the Indian diaspora at India House. The gathering resonated with patriotic chants and a collective call for justice.

Highlighting Pakistan’s long-standing use of terrorism as state policy, veteran journalist M.J. Akbar recalled Gandhi’s strong stand against such acts in 1947. “Gandhiji, though a symbol of peace, believed in standing firm against terrorism,” Akbar said.

MP Priyanka Chaturvedi praised Ambedkar’s constitutional vision of inclusivity and justice, contrasting it with Pakistan’s continued instability and military dominance.

The delegation, joined by leaders like Daggubati Purandeswari and Pankaj Saran, showcased India’s united front against terrorism, regardless of political lines. The visit also included meetings with U.K. political leaders, think tanks, and diaspora representatives, reinforcing India’s stance of zero tolerance for terrorism.

The mission continues to the EU and Germany, part of India’s broader outreach to highlight Pakistan’s involvement in terrorism. The initiative follows heightened tensions after India’s precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
