Manistee’s First Street Beach has once again been named Michigan’s top beach by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, marking its second consecutive win following its 2024 title .
Located along the Lake Michigan shoreline, First Street Beach is celebrated for its wide sandy shores, gentle waves, and a host of family-friendly amenities. The beach features multiple parks and playgrounds, a full-service concession stand, and permanent restrooms. Douglas Park, part of the beach area, includes baseball and softball diamonds, basketball and tennis courts, and four playgrounds .
For dog lovers, the beach offers a dedicated dog park and a separate dog beach area, although dogs are restricted from the main beach between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Additional attractions include an 18-hole disc golf course, picnic areas with charcoal grills, a boat launch, and access to Rocket Park and Lighthouse Park. The beach is also ADA-accessible and features a safety station equipped with life vests .
Mayor Jermaine Sullivan expressed pride in the beach’s recognition, stating, “First Street Beach has it all, and we backed up last year’s win with another.” Sammie Lukaskiewicz, Executive Director of Manistee Tourism, highlighted the beach’s appeal, noting its blend of natural beauty and diverse amenities that cater to a wide range of visitors .
