The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, and Food Security has announced that a shipment of government-imported salt is set to arrive in Sri Lanka by this evening, aiming to address recent shortages and stabilize the local market.
Deputy Minister R.M. Jayawardena confirmed via phone that salt would begin to reach store shelves starting this morning, and the current scarcity is expected to be fully resolved within a week.
In addition, a separate consignment imported by the private sector arrived yesterday, further boosting available supply.
“By next week, consumers across the country will be able to purchase salt without any shortage,” said Jayawardena, assuring the public of consistent supply moving forward.
The shipment consists of 30,000 metric tons of salt, a move the government says is crucial to maintaining steady availability and avoiding market disruptions.
