Kim Kardashian is set to testify in a Paris courtroom this week in the high-profile trial of the so-called “grandpa robbers”—a gang of aging suspects accused of stealing $9 million worth of jewelry from her at gunpoint in 2016.
The incident occurred at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, a discreet luxury residence frequented by celebrities. The robbers, allegedly posing as police officers, tied up Kardashian and forced the concierge to act as a translator during the terrifying ordeal. French media dubbed the suspects the “grandpa robbers” due to their ages—most of them are now in their 60s and 70s.
The suspects include the alleged mastermind Aomar “Old Omar” Ait Khedache, his son Harminy (alleged getaway driver), and others involved in planning, executing, or supporting the robbery—including Kardashian’s driver’s brother, who is accused of leaking her whereabouts.
Investigators believe the group tracked Kardashian through her social media posts, including one flaunting a 20-carat diamond ring, before executing the armed heist.
The trial has faced delays over the years due to the suspects’ health issues, with one defendant having died and another deemed unfit to stand trial. Among those who have already testified is Yunice Abbas, who wrote a book confessing his role titled “I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian.”
Kardashian is expected to confront her alleged attackers face-to-face nearly a decade after the traumatic incident.
