In a major step towards digital security and service continuity, the Government of the Maldives has signed an agreement with KBSL Information Technologies Limited—one of Sri Lanka’s leading IT firms under the Agility Innovations Group. The deal focuses on creating a national Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) plan that will help protect Maldives’ digital systems during crises or cyberattacks.
Backed by the World Bank’s Digital Maldives for Adaptation, Decentralization, and Diversification (DMED) program, the project will be implemented in collaboration with regional tech partners Nextbizz and Valiant Technologies India. Together, they bring deep expertise in cybersecurity, infrastructure, and risk management.
The plan will be developed for the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), which leads the Maldives’ digital transformation. Once completed, the BCDR strategy will ensure essential government services remain up and running even during disruptions, marking a major achievement in national tech resilience.
Key figures at the signing included:
Dr. Mohamed Kinaanath, Minister of State for Homeland Security & Technology, who also heads NCIT.
Ibrahim Waheed, DMED Project Manager and Steering Committee Chair, who is steering the broader digital roadmap.
Representing KBSL and its partners were:
Krishan Perera, AVP – International Business
Winu Peththawadu, Account Manager – International Business
Sahan Weerasekara, Lead BCDR Consultant
Ganesh Kandasamy from Valiant Technologies India
“This collaboration strengthens the Maldives’ digital backbone and aligns with its ambitious #DigitalMaldives vision,” said Krishan Perera of KBSL.
This project not only advances national preparedness but also sets an example for regional cooperation in building secure, resilient digital ecosystems across South Asia.
