Five Iranian men have been arrested in the UK under suspicion of plotting a terror attack allegedly targeting the Israeli embassy in London, the BBC has confirmed. While police have not officially named the embassy due to operational reasons, credible sources indicate that it was indeed the intended site.
The arrests—conducted in Swindon, West London, Stockport, Rochdale, and Manchester—were part of a fast-moving counter-terrorism operation. Four men remain in custody under the Terrorism Act, while one was released on bail under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
Footage from the arrests shows armed officers detaining suspects in residential areas, with several properties across Greater Manchester, London, and Swindon searched for evidence.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has publicly denied the country’s involvement and offered cooperation in the investigation, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that Iran “categorically rejects” any role.
In Parliament, Home Office minister Dan Jarvis called the operation “one of the largest counter-terrorism actions in recent times,” highlighting the scale and urgency of the ongoing forensic work.
A separate investigation on the same day saw three more Iranian men arrested under the National Security Act 2023, linked to suspicions of “foreign power threat activity.”
Authorities continue to urge the public to stay vigilant as the investigation unfolds.
