President Anura Kumara Dissanayake Embarks on State Visit to Vietnam to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

COLOMBO, May 4 — President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has officially departed for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam today, marking the beginning of a three-day state visit from May 4 to 6, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

The visit comes at the invitation of Vietnamese President Luong Cuong and coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam. It aims to deepen cooperation across political, economic, and cultural spheres.

Key Highlights of the Visit:

Bilateral talks with Vietnam’s President, Prime Minister, and Communist Party General Secretary.

Participation as chief guest and keynote speaker at the United Nations Day of Vesak on May 6 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Signing of multiple MoUs and agreements to promote trade, investment, and diplomatic cooperation.

High-level business dialogues with the Vietnamese private sector to explore joint ventures and partnerships.

Accompanying the President are Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, along with a delegation of senior government officials.

This visit is expected to elevate Sri Lanka-Vietnam relations to a new level of strategic partnership, particularly in areas like tourism, trade, labor exchange, and cultural diplomacy.
