SABARAGAMUWA, SRI LANKA — The ongoing probe into a reported ragging incident at Sabaragamuwa University’s Faculty of Technology has officially been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigation.
The incident came to light after a group of students filed a complaint with the Samanalawewa Police on April 29, 2025, alleging severe ragging within the faculty. Authorities have since recorded statements from 20 affected students, according to police sources.
Following initial investigations, the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) instructed that the case be escalated to the CID to ensure a thorough and independent inquiry.
Ragging, a persistent issue in Sri Lankan universities, continues to draw national attention due to its impact on student safety and mental health.
