Canada Election Enters Final Stretch with Healthcare and Housing in Focus

As the Canadian federal election nears its conclusion, a record turnout in early voting has set the stage for a high-stakes finish, with healthcare and housing taking center stage in party platforms.

With the election campaign in its final days, key party leaders are intensifying their efforts to win over undecided voters, focusing on healthcare reforms and ambitious housing plans.

Liberal Leader Mark Carney visited all three Maritime provinces today, making a stop in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, where he reiterated his party’s healthcare commitments. In a bid to address the country’s medical professional shortage, Carney also called on Canadian doctors currently working in the U.S. to return home and help strengthen the national healthcare system.

In Toronto, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre unveiled a new campaign promise, pledging to build 2.3 million homes over the next five years—a boost from earlier projections aimed at tackling the nation’s housing crisis. He also confirmed that the Conservative Party’s costed platform will be released tomorrow.

Meanwhile, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh toured Vancouver Island, promising to expand pharmacare to include all essential medicines, reinforcing the NDP’s long-standing commitment to accessible healthcare for all Canadians.

Both the Liberals and the NDP released fully costed campaign platforms over the weekend. As platforms solidify, voters are expected to weigh these policies carefully in the final days of the campaign.

In a rare moment of unity, all party leaders extended their condolences and support to Canada’s Catholic community following the passing of Pope Francis, aged 88, earlier this morning.

With voting already underway, Canadians now look to the final days of campaigning to make their decision in what has become a highly competitive race.
