A hot air balloon crash in Essex led to one person being hospitalised and a temporary power outage after the aircraft hit an overhead electricity line.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Newhouse Road in Earls Colne after a hot air balloon struck a power line and made an emergency landing in a nearby field around 7:00 PM on Thursday, according to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
One man was transported to Colchester General Hospital for treatment, while ten others were assessed on site and did not require further medical care, the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAS) confirmed.
Fire crews provided immediate first aid, cooled down the balloon’s gas cylinders, and collaborated with UK Power Networks to secure the area and prevent further hazards.
In total, an ambulance, two ambulance officer vehicles, and a specialist Hazardous Area Response Team were dispatched to manage the incident.
Power was disrupted in the local area but was fully restored by 5:00 AM on Friday after repair work was completed on the overhead electricity line, UK Power Networks confirmed.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the incident, and an investigation may follow to assess how the balloon came into contact with the power line.
