Kohli Becomes Fastest to 14,000 ODI Runs, Surpassing Tendulkar’s Record

India batter Virat Kohli became just the third batter to score 14,000 runs in ODI cricket during India’s ICC Champions Trophy match against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday.

Pakistan chose to bat first after Mohammad Rizwan won the toss in Dubai. Despite a couple of early wickets, Rizwan and Saud Shakeel combined for a 104-run partnership for the third wicket to stabilize the innings.

However, a collapse in the middle order saw them lose momentum, and only a few late hits from Khushdil Shah helped them reach 241 all out in 49.4 overs.

In response, India got off to a fast start before Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed captain Rohit Sharma for 20 off 13 balls, bringing Virat Kohli to the crease.

After a few shaky moments early on, Kohli settled in, playing a couple of trademark shots through the covers.

The second of those, in the 13th over off Haris Rauf zipped away for four, and helped Kohli cross the milestone of 14,000 ODI runs: he became only the third player to do so.

Having gotten there in just 287 innings, he is now the fastest to the landmark by a massive margin. Sachin Tendulkar, in second place, took 350 innings to do so.
