Sri Lanka’s U19 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign has been graced by an exceptional young talent – Limansa Thilakarathna. Born on April 9, 2008, the 16-year-old cricket prodigy has been making waves with her stellar performances as a left-handed batter and a leg-spinner.
Limansa was also a part of the Sri Lankan team that participated in the U19 Asia Cup in Malaysia last year. Her current form in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup has been nothing short of remarkable. In just three matches, she has taken six wickets, maintaining an outstanding economy rate of 2.48. This feat makes her the second-highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in the tournament, trailing only Chamodi Prabodha, who has seven wickets to her name.
Cricket runs deep in Limansa’s veins. She is the daughter of legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan, a name synonymous with innovation and all-round excellence in the sport. Dilshan, a former captain of the Sri Lankan men’s team, left an indelible mark on cricket with his daring stroke play, particularly the iconic “Dil-Scoop,” a shot played over the wicketkeeper’s head.
Limansa looks up to her father as a role model and draws immense inspiration from his career. In a video shared by the ICC, she expressed her admiration, saying, “Tillakaratne Dilshan, he’s my dad. And he’s like me as well. I’m pretty proud of that. I really enjoy watching him play—his batting, his bowling, his fielding. He’s one of the best fielders and a great all-rounder. He’s my favorite cricketer.”
With such passion and dedication, Limansa Thilakarathna is well on her way to carving out her own legacy in Sri Lankan cricket. Her performances in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup have already positioned her as a future star, and with her father’s guidance and her natural talent, she is set to reach great heights in the sport.
