Rising Star: Chamodi Prabodha – A 15-Year-Old Cricket Sensation from Monaragala

In the heart of Monaragala, Sri Lanka, a 15-year-old cricket prodigy is making waves in the world of women’s cricket. Hewa Munasinghalage Chamodi Prabodha, affectionately known as Chamodi, has captured the attention of the cricketing community with her talent, determination, and dreams of reaching the pinnacle of the sport.

A Journey Rooted in Passion

Born on April 25, 2009, Chamodi began her cricketing journey in the quiet town of Monaragala. A left-handed batter and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, she honed her skills at Pagngnanada Maha Vidyalaya, a school that became the foundation of her cricketing aspirations.

Chamodi credits her family for their unwavering support despite limited resources. “My mother, Anoma Nishanthi, and father, Dinesh Kumara, have always backed me. They may not have all the facilities to offer, but they’ve supported me in every way they can,” Chamodi shares. Her younger brother and elder sister are equally enthusiastic, cheering her on during every match. The family even made the trip to watch her compete in the Hambantota Tri-Nation matches, a testament to their dedication and pride in her journey.

From Monaragala to National Recognition

Chamodi’s talent was evident from an early age, and her hard work earned her a spot in the Sri Lanka Women Under-19s team. Her journey from Monaragala to representing the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) is a story of grit and determination. Chamodi is now laser-focused on the upcoming ICC Women’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where she aims to showcase her skills on an international stage.

“Getting international exposure is very vital,” she says. “From Monaragala to SSC and then the National team, my dream is to one day play for the senior National team.”

Inspired by a Legend

Chamodi finds inspiration in Chamari Athapaththu, the captain of the Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team. “Chamari akka’s performance always inspires me. I want to reach that level someday,” Chamodi shares, reflecting her aspirations to emulate her idol’s success and lead by example.

A Star in the Making

Chamodi’s story is one of perseverance and ambition, proving that talent combined with hard work can overcome any obstacle. Her rise from humble beginnings in Monaragala to playing at the national level is a shining example for young athletes across Sri Lanka. As she continues to develop her skills and gain international exposure, Chamodi’s journey is just beginning.

With her sights set on the Women’s Under-19 World Cup and a future spot on the senior National team, Chamodi Prabodha is undoubtedly a name to watch in the world of women’s cricket.
