Australia Welcomes Indian Graduates and Professionals through New MATES Visa Scheme

Starting December 2024, Australia will offer 3,000 annual visas for young Indian graduates and professionals to gain invaluable international work experience.

The Australian government has unveiled the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES), a new visa pathway aimed at attracting top graduates and early-career professionals from India. Beginning in December 2024, the MATES program will issue up to 3,000 Temporary Work (International Relations) (Subclass 403) visas annually for skilled Indian professionals to live and work in Australia for up to two years.

Key Highlights and Benefits of the MATES Visa

The MATES visa scheme offers an exclusive opportunity for Indian nationals to gain hands-on experience in sectors vital to Australia’s growth and innovation, including renewable energy, mining, engineering, ICT, artificial intelligence, fintech, and agri-tech. These industries provide a path for career development while supporting Australia’s need for expertise in transformative fields.

Successful applicants will benefit from:

A two-year work visa with flexibility to work for any employer and reside anywhere in Australia.

Open eligibility for early-career professionals and recent graduates from recognized Indian universities.

Family-friendly provisions that allow visa holders to bring dependents, enabling an inclusive experience for professionals and their families.

Pre-Application Ballot Process and Selection

As part of a transparent and fair selection process, the Australian Department of Home Affairs has introduced a pre-application ballot system to manage the initial interest for this program. To apply, Indian nationals must first register in the pre-application ballot. Those selected in the ballot will then be invited to apply for the visa—only applicants with an invitation will be eligible.

The first ballot opens for registration in December 2024. This streamlined process ensures organized, fair access for qualified professionals eager to make the most of this opportunity.

Strengthening the India-Australia Partnership

The MATES program plays a significant role in the ongoing India-Australia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement. By offering a career-enhancing pathway for talented Indian professionals, Australia aims to strengthen its economic, educational, and cultural ties with India.

Australia’s Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, and Multicultural Affairs commented, “We are proud to introduce MATES as a dynamic new pathway for young Indian professionals to excel and innovate in Australia’s most exciting sectors. Through this scheme, we aim to deepen our partnership with India and create a lasting, positive impact on both our economies.”

Ready to Begin Your Australian Adventure?

Indian graduates and early-career professionals are encouraged to seize this opportunity to gain international experience in Australia’s high-demand industries. With a fair pre-application ballot system set to open soon, the MATES program promises to be a life-changing chance for those selected. Ambitious, skilled individuals ready to take their careers to the next level are invited to register in December for a chance to join this unique, prestigious program.
