Celebrity singer and fan-favorite coach Guy Sebastian has made a surprising announcement: he’s leaving The Voice Australia. In a heartfelt Instagram post on Wednesday, Sebastian revealed he will not be returning to the Channel 7 show next year as he plans to dedicate his time to his upcoming album release and a new tour.
“I have made the decision to take a break from the best red chair on the planet,” he shared. “It’s been six amazing years as a coach, and it’s honestly been the best gig ever!” Sebastian went on to express his gratitude for the show, the Network 7 team, and his fellow coaches, praising The Voice for being a “positive space” for artists.
Sebastian, who has been working on his new album for four years, explained that it’s time for him to return to his musical roots: writing, recording, and performing. He hinted at an exciting year ahead, with plans to tour Australia and possibly beyond, allowing him to connect directly with fans who have been asking for more live performances.
The Voice, now in its 13th season, has become a platform for emerging Australian talent, with the winner receiving a cash prize and a recording contract. While Sebastian will step back for now, he hinted he might return in the future. “Whoever has the audacity to take my chair, don’t get too comfortable… I will wrestle for it back with zero dignity when I’m ready to return,” he joked.
Seven’s Chief Content Officer, Brook Hall, thanked Sebastian for his impact on The Voice, calling his mentorship “inspirational.” Fans across social media responded with surprise and admiration, congratulating Sebastian on his six years with the show.
The new lineup of coaches for the 2025 season is expected to be announced in the coming months, but Guy Sebastian’s departure undoubtedly marks the end of an era for The Voice.
